This workshop investigates how traveling architectures, as portable installations, can animate and transform our understanding of liquid urbanisms and sustainability--that is the vitality and preciousness of water--through a participatory dance, music, and visual arts workshop.

In this workshop, we will explore the relationship of the location of Lung Fu Shan Environmental Education Center in the former staff quarters for the Water Supplies Department, its proximity to the Lung Fu Shan and Pok Fu Lam Country Park with the Pok Fu Lam Reservoir, and a partial history of water in Hong Kong in relation to the broader urban landscape. Water travels towards its urban destinations through the interwoven urban landscapes of the natural and built ecologies as forms of liquid urbanisms.

In the first section of the workshop, participants will learn visual arts skills for designing and constructing creative structures that showcase how Hong Kong’s water is housed and transferred along the city networks. In the second part, participants will use these forms to chart a series of simple dances and dramatic sketches that help tell the story of Lung Fu Shan Environmental Education Centre and Hong Kong Waterworks. In the final workshop section, we will explore how the arts can help us communicate our ideas to a larger audience through display and performance formats.

The workshop activities will lead to a community performance piece that will be showcased during the last 30 minutes of the workshop as well as the inclusion of selected pieces from the workshop at the Public Showing for Traveling Architectures at the University of Hong Kong Black Box, June 17.
